Assistant Staff Training Course for Equine Facilitated Activities (EFA)


  1. Acceptance criteria, all the criterias listed below are the parts of the application

- High School Diploma

- Minimum of 18 years old

- Letter of Intent (Please state if you have any experiences with the disabled people and 

horses)

- Reference Letter (Old employer, Employees of AT-BIN, University Members, Equestrian 

Federation, Others)


  1. Competency after the course

Target knowledge:

  • - Knows and uses professional terminology in EFA
  • - Knows the organizational structure and competencies in the team for individual fields of EFA
  • - Understands and explains client/user, centre and horse documentation.
  • - Respects and adheres to the ethical principles of providing EFA.
  • - Knows the principles of horse ethology and their use in horse handling.
  • - Knows the principles of work organization and work procedures related to animal husbandry in the framework of welfare, health and safety.
  • - Knows the principles of first aid for humans and animals.
  • - Knows the specifics of communication with people with special needs, communication barriers.


Target skills of the course participant:

  • Knows and follows the rules of safety in contact with animals, in the handling and care of horses and in activities with them.
  • Can provide first aid
  • Masters the techniques of leading horses at the head
  • Knows the principles of safety when getting on and off the client/user, can provide help in any case, how to act in an emergency
  • Masters the techniques of securing and helping clients/users with different diagnoses.
  • Can use tools and types of equipment in various fields of EFA
  • Masters the ways of communicating with people with special needs.
  • Correctly distinguishes between EFA approaches and their practical application according to the client's needs.

  • 64 Hours (60 % Theoretical & 40 % Practical)  + Examination (5 weeks)
